Though they have been brought into the agronomic practice for few years, effect of humic extracts have immediately proved to be very satisfactory on plants as well as on soil.
Humic matters are made up of natural organic compound macromolecules and they carry out a positive nutritive action on plants, either directly, through their readily assimilable elements, or indirectly, by increasing the permeability of the cell membrane, thus encouraging entrance and translocation of nutrients within the plant. At root level, humic matters encourage rhizogenesis, on seeds they promote germination.
If applied to the soil, either in open beds or on the seeding furrow, they increase C.E.C., thus improving the availability of the elements which are already present, iron and phosphorus in particular.
Humic matters also improve the physico-chemical composition of soil, encouraging the formation of stable aggregates. Last but not least, they encourage the proliferation of useful micro-organisms.
